Apology Regarding Incorrect and Unintended Public Disclosure of Donor Information

Mokuaikaua Church wishes to issue a sincere apology regarding the donor information that appeared in the recent Hawai‘i Tribune-Herald article covering the reopening of Hawai‘i’s first Christian church.

Earlier this week, donor amounts were provided to the newspaper based on outdated and inaccurate information that had been stored on our former website. These figures were never intended for public release, nor were they reflective of the confidential records we maintain today. We deeply regret that this incorrect material was shared.

We want to state clearly:

  • The donor names and amounts published were inaccurate.
  • No donor giving information was ever approved for public distribution.
  • This mistake arose from an internal miscommunication regarding an old, archived webpage that did not represent our current records or standards.

At Mokuaikaua Church, we place the highest value on the trust of those who partner with us. We take donor confidentiality seriously, and we understand that many individuals, families, and organizations contribute sacrificially and quietly, without desire for public recognition.

On behalf of our leadership and our congregation, I offer my heartfelt apologies to our donors, supporters, and community. We are reviewing our communication protocols to ensure that errors of this nature do not occur again.

We remain grateful for the generosity that has made the restoration of Mokuaikaua Church possible, and we are committed to stewarding that trust with integrity.

Mahalo nui loa,
Kahu David de Carvalho
Senior Pastor, Mokuaikaua Church
